Allure Cover Look | January 2013

I subscribed to Allure magazine recently and I am so excited to share my opinions on the topics mentioned. The point of these post will be to share my thoughts and opinions on what Allure covers for the month.

This month features Drew Barrymore and her recently released makeup line FLOWER. I went to Wal Mart to check it out for myself. I tried a few eye and lip products.

The lip butters are wonderful! They remind me of the L'Oreal Colour Riche Balms but with more staying power. This acts as a one step lip color. There is no need for a mirror, liner or gloss. Everything you need is in this tube - I love it! 5/5!

This slip color by itself is moisturizing and floral smelling. The issue I have with it is the color doesn't glide on smoothly. It feel smooth but when you look at the pink color it leaves - it is blotchy. This is a quick fix though. Simply rub your lips together or blot the lip stick on opposed to sweeping the stick across your lips. I give this lip stick a 4/5 because the color does not stay smooth on the lips.

What an impressive product! This gloss can be wore by itself or on top of your favorite lip stick. Either way, it's beautiful! I give this gloss a 5/5. It is the most moisturizing and comfortable gloss i have come across yet.

These were the only eye products they had on display the day Drew line was released to my local Wal Mart. Of the two I am most impressed with the mascara. It's hour glass shape fits my lashes very well. It has a gel formula that is more on the dry side. I haven't noticed any flaking either!

I give the mascara a 4/5 because I do not like the flexibility of the wand.

The liner in another story. The color fades and wipes away with time. I wouldn't recommend this product.

I give the liner a 3/5.

Let me know what you guys think of the FLOWER line!

Work OOTD | Peach, Nude & Black

This outfit is in part due to my obsession with the color peach and in part to the laziness of a college student during her first week back to class. Needless to say, I heard my alarm and then proceeded to hit snooze again and again.. and again. I had this look played out in my head with the shirt tucked in and the outfit in general being more "put together" looking. When I tried tucking the shirt into the pants it looked super goofy. Because of it's loose fitting style, the shirt added about 10 pounds to my stomach -so of course, that was a no go. I was strapped for time so I just left the shirt untucked and went with it. My point is if it looks a bit disheveled and you can't place why that is -that would be the reason.

Shirt - MauricesThis is the piece that this whole look was centered around. Once I put in on I realized it was a lot more loose fitting than I originally expected. The top by itself seemed a bit too casual for work so I added the blazer.

Blazer - MauricesTalk about a blazer made for me. From the ruched quarter-sleeves to the slim fit, this is my favorite blazer I have ever owned.  I love the one button look as well. It adds a girly touch to the jacket.

Dress Pants - Macy's
These are known as my "I want to be comfortable but I don't want anyone to know it. They are the only pair of dress pants I have that aren't flared at the  . I wear the, when I get up too late or I just want to be relaxed at work. The catch to these pants is that I have to wear really high heels with them. Usually when I wear high heels I have to be more awake so I don't trip on everything. So there ya go! They are comfy AND double as a "keep Melissa awake mechanism
...." Or something.

Nails of the Week: Coral Crush

This week I did all my nails the same color which, if you follow my Pinterest you would know, is not common for me.

My sister bought this polish along with the Teal one for me this past week. I know, she rocks!
I have never tried Maybelline polishes before but I have to say I'm impressed.

The color is neon with a slightly shinny finish (without a top coat). The application wasn't bad at all. Although this is a mandatory two-coat polish, it is beautiful.

Have you tried any of Maybelline polishes? What do you think?

Wedding Makeup & Hair

This past Saturday my friend Brittany had a wedding to go to. She called me and asked me to do her hair and makeup for the occasion. Her dress was black with hot pain heels and accents. This is what I came up with.

Makeup

Face

  • Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer
  • Neutrogena Skin-Clearing Makeup mixed with Lioele Beyond the Solution BB Cream
  • L'oreal Visible Lift Powder in Fair
  • Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser Concealer in Fair
  • Revlon PhotoReady Bronzer in Bronzed & Chic
  • Benefit HighBeam
  • Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink

Eyes

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer
  • Wet n' Wild Creme Shadow Pencil in Pixie
  • Chickaboom Shadow in Pyramids from the Rose Russo palette
  • Chickaboom Shadow in Ken's Girl from the Rose Russo palette
  • Urban Decay Shadow in Sin from the Naked palette
  • Urban Decay Shadow in Naked from the Naked palette
  • Chickaboom Shadow in Silver Belle mixed with Carbonize from the Rose Russo palette
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero
  • L'oreal Voluminous Original Mascara in Back/Brown
Hair

Products Used

  • Frizz-Ease Dream Curls Curl-Perfecting Spray
  • TRESemme TRES Two Hair Spray

Styling Tools Used

  • Ion Super Moist Solutions 1/2 inch Flat Iron
  • Bobby Pins
  • Conair Teasing Comb

First, I curled all her hair with the flat iron. I find that when you're working with hard-to-curl hair, the best way to keep the curls lasting all day is to use a small flat iron. Then a teased the crown of her hair to give a little lift and volume. After smoothing down the top, I secured the sides of her hair in a half-up style with bobby pins.

Here is the finished look!
